Where Can You Drive Your Rental Car?

The Green Card (International Motor Insurance Certificate) proves your vehicle has minimum compulsory insurance in the countries you visit. It is required at most non-EU border crossings. We include it with the cross-border permit for every destination listed on this page.

Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia, Austria, Hungary, Italy, and Slovakia are all free with rentals of 3 or more days. For 1–2 day rentals, a €50 one-time fee applies — you can select this option on the extras step during checkout.

Albania, Kosovo, and North Macedonia are covered by a single €80 fee — visit one, two, or all three for the same price. Greece has a separate €100 one-time fee. You can add these permits when booking online or arrange them later at pickup.

For the free countries (Bosnia, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia) with a 3+ day rental — no advance notice is needed, the permit is automatic. For Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Greece — you can add the permit when booking online or simply arrange it at pickup.

The Debeli Brijeg crossing into Montenegro can see 20–60 minute queues in July and August. The Doljani crossing into Bosnia is typically 15–40 minutes. EU crossings (Slovenia, Hungary, Austria, Italy) are usually 5–15 minutes. We recommend crossing early morning or after 7pm to avoid peak queues.

Yes! The Pelješac Bridge now lets you bypass the Neum corridor entirely. The old coastal road (D8) still passes through Neum for about 9 km, requiring two quick Croatian–Bosnian border checks (usually 2–5 minutes each).

Absolutely. You can combine multiple cross-border permits on a single booking. For example, drive from Split to Mostar (Bosnia), then Dubrovnik, then Kotor (Montenegro) — all covered under the free permit for 3+ day rentals.
