FREE Ferry Permission
You are officially authorized to take any Avax vehicle on all internal Croatian ferry lines — Jadrolinija, Krilo, and more.
Insurance Stays Valid
If you've purchased optional insurance (Start, Medium, or Premium), it remains fully active while driving on any Croatian island — no extra "Island Insurance" needed.

Best Cars for Island Driving
Our top picks for island roads — smaller cars get cheaper ferry tickets and easier parking.
Mini / Economy
Toyota Aygo, Fiat 500, or similar
Under 4m long — cheapest ferry tickets, easy to park in narrow stone alleys, and best fuel economy for island roads.
Compact
Opel Corsa, VW Polo, or similar
Perfect balance of comfort and maneuverability. Fits 4 comfortably with luggage and still easy to navigate island roads.
SUV / Crossover
Suzuki Vitara, Hyundai Tucson, or similar
Higher clearance for rougher island terrain, extra space for families, and great for exploring remote bays and viewpoints.
Booking Tips for Travelers
Pro tips to make your island ferry experience seamless.
Buy Your Own Ferry Tickets
Avax covers the vehicle permission — you purchase your vehicle and passenger tickets from Jadrolinija, Krilo, or other operators. Book online or at the port.
The "RENTAL" Trick
When booking ferry tickets online before your trip, enter "RENTAL" in the license plate field. Jadrolinija accepts this — we'll give you the real plate at pickup.
Arrive Early in Peak Season
During July/August, arrive at the ferry port 60–90 minutes before departure, even with a pre-booked ticket. In shoulder season, 30–45 minutes is enough. Check the live port cameras below before you drive!
Choose a Compact Car
Cars under 5m (like Toyota Aygo or Opel Corsa) get cheaper ferry tickets and are much easier to park in narrow island streets.
Live Port Cameras
Check the ferry port queues in real-time before you drive. Cameras refresh every 30 seconds.

Safety & Insurance
Your coverage doesn't stop at the coastline.
On-Board Safety
While your insurance covers you on the island, always follow the crew's instructions when loading your car onto the ferry. Engage the handbrake and leave the car in gear. Standard insurance does not cover damages from improper vehicle securing during transit.
Off-Road Driving
Driving on unpaved roads or "macadam" (common on some remote island bays) is not covered by standard insurance. Stick to paved roads, or upgrade to Premium coverage for added peace of mind.
